When it comes down to it, the Department of Environmental Services
takes care of everything we don't want anymore — the wastewater from
our drains, the trash and green wastes from our homes and lawns, along
with the debris washed from the land by storm water.
Each day, ENV collects and treats 115 million gallons of wastewater. Six days a week, gathers our trash from the curb and disposes of it.
But while these are the services we provide, our larger mission is to
work in partnership with the residents of the City & County of Honolulu
to make sure our island has a clean, safe environment.
We work with businesses, individuals and sister agencies to foster a sense
of joint responsibility for our aina, so that we can protect it for our
children.
The Department takes seriously its part of the responsibility to lay the best plans for the future, while working within the fiscal constraints of the present and to educate the public on measures that will help protect public health and the environment.
