Oversight Advisory Committee - Waimanalo Gulch Landfill
Purpose of the committee:
To provide a forum for community representatives
to share community concerns about the operation of the City's
Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill with Waste Management Hawaii,
Inc. (the operator of the landfill), with the goal of promoting
cooperation to ensure that the landfill is operated in a manner
sensitive to those concerns.
How it functions:
The Committee meets to hear reports from
Waste Management Hawaii, Inc. about what is happening at the
landfill,
and to share community concerns about those operations.
Committee members and how they were selected:
The members were
asked to serve by Mayor Mufi Hannemann based on recommendations
from community leaders, and include Albert Silva (Chair), Polly
Grace (Vice Chair), Allen Parker (Recording Secretary), T.
George Paris, Alex Santiago, David Akina, Lorraine Martinez,
Pearl Lewis,
and John Desoto.
How often does the committee meet and where?
The Committee held its first meeting on July 10, 2006, and
has been meeting about once a month in Conference Room A, on
the
ground floor of Kapolei Hale, 1000 Uluohia Street, Kapolei,
Hawaii 96707. The meetings are scheduled on a month-to-month
basis.
Can the public participate? How?
Yes, the public is encouraged to participate by attending the
Committee meetings, or by contacting the Committee members
to share their concerns about the operations at the landfill.
Meeting agendas will be posted here online at opala.org at
least six days prior to each meeting. Agendas will also be
posted with
the City Clerk and at Kapolei Hale at least six days prior
to each meeting.
