The
Partnership for the Environment is asking for your support,
not in terms of financial assistance, but in the continued commitment
to the concept of conservation and waste reduction through recycling
and reuse.
Successful recycling programs are as varied as the organizations represented in the Partnership itself. GTE collects and recycles 750,000 telephone books every year. The Hilton Hawaiian Village recycles it’s wet waste into compost which is then reused on the hotel grounds. Young Laundry and Drycleaning recycles or reuses 10,000 to 12,000 wire coat hangers every week. In fact just about anything that an organization uses can be a candidate for recycling and reuse. We would like to thank all of the Partnership member companies for their leadership and ask them to continue to expand their programs and to share the news of their successes with others. It is through your examples of good corporate citizenship that others will come to listen. And it is through your message that they will see the benefits and cost reductions available to them in well designed recycling programs. But the Partnership is also made up of many businesses and firms that really make recycling work. These are the waste hauling companies, the recycling firms, the artists and individuals that turn our castoffs into useful and beautiful products. Recycling cannot work without a healthy market for these products. We urge all of the members to renew and increase their commitment to using recycled products at every opportunity. And please spread the word, “Recycle, reuse, and be sure to buy recycled products.” | |
